the most ruggedest boys chair
my mom used to own a retail interiors store and sold these canvas chairs - much less rugged than this ralph lauren version made of serious canvas and leather. either way, very cosy.

the $ summer tie
steven alan is teaming up with liberty prints to make this really good looking ties, same folks who teamed up with nike to put of some very pretty dunks.
my girlfriend and i picked up some prints in the garment district similar to these liberty print ties. sent them to hong kong and had ties made of them much like this for dirt dirt cheap. i'll claim to have set the trend for skinny floral neck ties. post to follow with pic of my killer tie.
the $ summer shoe
check these out on j. crew, which just continues to sell the nicest clothes, maybe period, but definitely for a large retailer. the high top sperry is $.

RFK Funeral Train

i bought this book for my older brother for christmas. it's a series of photos shot by paul fusco from the train carrying robert kennedy's coffin from new york to washington - an incredible capture of a very tragic day, and confirmation of a hero. and the aesthetic of the shot is beautiful, along with (to be vain) the clothes of all those captured.
great multimedia piece here from the nytimes.

for all the props this man gets, he deserves more
i was in cambridge, mass some time back with my girlfriend when she got asked to show her collection at a fashion show put on by some harvard kid (project east 2009) when i came across the andover shop - bought there this incredible knit belt.
then just last week i come across this photo of miles davis on polo's website. they've got this whole piece on davis, chet baker, jj thomas, all these heavy hitting jazz musicians who totally reinterpreted preppy style.
nearly everything of miles' i have - with particular attraction to birth of the cool or miles smiles (footprints!!) or a tribute to jack johnson - and seeing him in these goods makes me laugh its so good. he's just so good at it all.

just read through the grapevine that KAWS is going to make a stop in ridgefield, ct, my hometown??!! the aldirch museum of contemporary art is just getting crazy cool and making me proud proud proud to be coming out of that town. one of the top KAWS pieces on my list above.
bought these about two years ago from paul stuart in new york. done - best shoe i have or will ever purchase. have been wearing them five days a week now for two years (less summers) and they only look better. paul stuart never gets credits like alden or church's but they're definetely making some smart shoes.
a place i'd like to return

spring break of my senior year of college me and four friends packed into my subaru and drove from portland, oregon to joshua tree, california, straight through the night. at one point during that blissful week we ended up here, in a bunch of sand dunes in death valley national park. you've got to hike about two miles from a dirt road to make it out here, and aren't supposed to camp in the dunes once you're out there, but we couldn't resist.

ebay search: military watches
i've seen lena corwin (~>O<~) do ebay searches and post results - recently turkish or native american inspired rugs, which are nice.
here's my first go at it. thought of this after seeing the relaunch of a certain timex watch that j. crew is (exclusively?) selling. and from my girlfriend telling me we should check out military watches and see what we find. so nice.
here's a link to this specific watch

the jewels of new york seem to be both very talented cooks and photographers. check out their recipes here:

something that i'd like to have
buy it here:
salty rock

this wonderfully talented woman named lena corwin was kind enough to post images of my girlfriend's accessories. check out sarah's stuff here:
sarahmlaw at lenacorwin
but also make sure to check out lena's blog more generally. sarah took a class at lena's studio in brooklyn on print making. wander for a while and find some of her pictures of brooklyn and then consider moving here to see what she does everyday.
sarah's portfolio is here if you'd like to see more:

also, forgive formatting on this blog - i'm just getting started and have nearly no clue what i'm doing, mainly how to make fonts the same size!
lo-fi pdx
i don't know tommy, but she has taken some very nice pictures of portland, oregon (among other cities). i went to lewis & clark college in portland and am now desperately wanting to go back.
thank you, tommy.
